DESCRIPTION:Esteemed emcee and social justice activist\, Jasiri X will be speaking and preforming at CWU May 3 at 7 p.m. in the SURC Ballroom. Jasiri X has toured colleges and universities around the country presenting innovative workshops\, serving as a panelist and delivering keynote addresses. The event is free and open to all. Jasiri X is a modern millennium Civil Rights activist in addition to being an educator and musician. He has worked closely alongside his mentor\, the singer and social activist Harry Belafonte\, to address the social ills of today?s society in a multitude of public platforms. Jasiri X is the recipient of the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation Artist as Activist Fellowship\, BMe Fellowship\, The August Wilson Center for African-American culture fellowship and most recently chosen as a United States Cummings fellow. A new millennium leader and esteemed musician\, Jasiri X has leveraged the power of hip hop and social media into his own brand of social change. Witness what has gained Jasiri X notoriety\, his ability to succinctly address issues surrounding the disenfranchised of America via his hard hitting lyricism and powerful speeches.
