SUMMARY:Live Music at Punch! "Raj Saint Paul"
DESCRIPTION:Open 12-5pm Saturday\, February 7 with "Raj Saint Paul" playing ambient multi-media on the Punch Stage 3-5pm. In the Punch Gallery\, join us for the opening of "Collusion" featuring the work of Ade Hanft and Duane Toops.\n \n\nRaj Saint Paul is the newest project of artist and photojournalist Rajah Bose. His album "The First Sounds" was written over a span of twenty years and returned to him after a cross-country train trip. The album tells the stories of that time\, that trip\, and this moment. His contemporary take on the folk ballad is a visit to a place that seems both old and now.\n \n\nRaj's performance opens with the ethereal sounds of the electric violin and weaves together his guitar and stories that explore what's between the spirit and self. Spin Magazine said: "This is some serious songwriting. It's like a combination of Nick Cave and Jesse Winchester." \n \n\nThe performance includes a projected film made from the videos\, photos\, and stories gathered along the rail. \n \n\nRaj Saint Paul's music can be found at his website RajSaintPaul.com\, or wherever you listen. \n \n\n"Collusion" showcases the collage and video works of artists Ade Hanft and Duane Toops. This two-person exhibition presents both analogue\, hand-made collages as well as video-based works\, some of which are the results of collaborative efforts between the two artists. For Hanft and Toops\, beauty is hiding in plain sight waiting to be discovered. By embracing lo-fi techniques and non-traditional methods\, they find inventive ways to remix old ideas in new ways.\n \n\nAde Hanft is Colorado-based experimental artist known for his looping animations that are printed on receipts. His Instagram account (@ade3) tends to show the meticulous process of his work. Ade uses timelapse techniques to condense hours of work down to seconds. His non-traditional methods have led him to invent thermal printmaking techniques\, one-of-a-kind cameras\, and novel approaches to animation.\n \n\nDuane Toops is a collage maker in Melbourne\, Florida. Through the medium of collage\, he attempts to examine the fragments\, fractals\, and facets of the human experience\; joy and sorrow\, presence and absence\, memory and longing\, selfhood and identity\, hope and despair\, with the aim of discovering the ways in which they all connect and cohere.\n \n\nNot to mention\, we've got beverages and snacks in the Punch Snack Bar.\n \n\nPlan to arrive early for a good seat!\n \n\nJoin us for this free\, all-ages event at Punch Projects in Thorp\, Washington.
