DESCRIPTION:What is Mother?s Day like for an inmate in the California prison system? Award-winning journalist\, Dr. Leslie Shore will be speaking at Central Washington University (CWU) on Wednesday\, February 10 at 4:00 p.m. to address just that. Her lecture\, "Reuniting Families Torn Apart by Incarceration: Mother's Day in California Prisons\," is free\, open to the public and will be held in Black Hall Room 150. Shore?s talk will feature interviews\, with women prisoners and their children\, filmed inside of California prisons to illustrate the healing aspect of visitation programs on both the mother and the family. Shore\, a Central alumna and College of Arts and Humanities Advisory Board member\, is part of the CWU Social Justice and Human Rights Series. This year?s inaugural theme\, Mass Incarceration and Racial Justice: Black and Brown Lives Do Matter\, aims to educate Central?s community and initiate discussions about race.
