Name: David Lygre, Local Author presentation
Date: June 6, 2014
Time: 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM PDT
Event Description:
The Ellensburg Public Library hosts local author David Lygre for a free public presentation and book signing at Hal Holmes on Friday, June 6, at 7 p.m. What is it like to be running on a snowy, remote jeep trail in December, getting caught in a whiteout and spending eighteen hours shivering in a snow hole? Is it a good idea to promise a friend you?ll buy a mountain bike and ride with him 2500 miles along the Continental Divide; or help another friend, who has Parkinson?s disease, race 100 miles on mountain trails? Make an evening of it. Enjoy First Friday Art Walk venues, dinner downtown and finish up with an enjoyable evening with local author David Lygre talking about his escapades that he has recounted in his new book, Miles to Go: A Lifetime of Running and Bicycling Adventures. His adventures include running across the Grand Canyon and back, at high altitude in Colorado after recovering from cancer, 500 miles across Washington State, chasing national age-group records, and the largest ultra-marathon in the world, in South Africa. Bicycling stories include the Golden Circle in Alaska, pedaling with 10,000 other people across Iowa, and racing The Trailer Trash Girls in Spokane. Online reviews at Amazon.com describe Miles to Go as inspirational, humorous and heartfelt. One reviewer said: ?This is my favorite of all the running books I?ve read.? Lygre taught chemistry at CWU for 38 years, during which he was honored as Distinguished University Professor for Teaching, Scholar of the Year, and inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame. This is his fourth book. Two are chemistry textbooks and the third, Life Manipulation: From Test-tube Babies to Aging, was an Alternate Selection by the Book-of-the-Month Club.
