"Freedom Ride" Documentary Screening at CWU
In celebration of Martin Luther King Day, the CWU Center for Leadership and Community Engagement (CLCE) invites everyone to join in celebrating and commemorating the life, spirit and achievements of the visionary civil rights leader. On Wednesday, Jan. 14, the documentary "Freedom Ride" will be shown all day in the CWU Student Union and Recreation Center (SURC) Pit. The film follows CWU students as they retrace the route of the Freedom Riders, who challenged segregation on their trip from Washington D.C. to New Orleans in 1961. Viewing the film is free, and everyone is invited to attend. There will also be a partition display in the Pit featuring information on Dr. King and the Civil Rights movement. This event is sponsored by CLCE, the department of African & Black Studies, Students for the Dream, Black Student Union, E.M.P.I.R.E. and the Center for Diversity and Social Justice. For more information please contact CLCE at 509-963-1850 or clce@cwu.edu.
