Kittitas Connect: Downtown Storm Drain Stenciling Project
Have you ever stopped to consider where wastewater ends up once it washes down city storm drains? Contrary to what you may assume, it does not go to a treatment plant but rather directly into the streams and rivers that surround Ellensburg. The drains are designed to redirect rainwater, but unfortunately pollutants and contaminants do get mixed in. In an effort to educate the public about the problem, the CWU Center for Leadership and Community Engagement (CLCE) is hosting Kittitas Connect: Downtown Storm Drain Stenciling, a fun and free event which will offer volunteers a chance to leave their touch on the streets of downtown Ellensburg by marking the city?s storm drains with a ?Dump no Waste, Drains to River? spray paint stencil. Event registration begins at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10 in the Student Union and Recreation Center (SURC) Pit and volunteers will depart at 10 a.m. for various downtown locations. Free and open to everyone, this event is co-sponsored by the CLCE and the City of Ellensburg. For more information contact the CLCE at 509-963-1850, email clce@cwu.edu, visit their website at www.cwu.edu/leadership-engage or stop by their office in SURC 256.
