Speaker Tyrone Bledsoe: "Saving Lives, Salvaging Dreams"
Passionate about providing all students with educational opportunities, Tyrone Bledsoe, Ph.D., will be speaking at CWU. Founder and CEO of the Student African American Brotherhood (SAAB), Bledsoe works with students and schools across the nation. Though focused on supporting men of color, the organization welcomes students of any race, gender and background. Last year, Bledsoe visited Central to help establish the first Brother 2 Brother (B2B) chapter in the Pacific Northwest. The organization?s primary goals include encouraging leadership, preparing its members for the workforce and motivating them to reach their full potentials. In addition to establishing SAAB, Bledsoe is renowned for his scholarly work. He has been called a highly motivational speaker and invited for guest lectures around the world, including to Oxford University. Bledsoe was a contributing author for the book ?African American Men in College.? Among his several honors are the Impact Award and recognition by the global association for social entrepreneurs, Ashoka. With years of experience as an educator, Bledsoe will provide valuable insight on how to support the academic success of young men of color. Bledsoe?s appearance is part of the CWU Social Justice and Human Rights Series. This year?s inaugural theme, "Mass Incarceration and Racial Justice: Black and Brown Lives Do Matter," aims to educate Central?s community and initiate discussions about race.
