Spring Fitness Decathlon: Five Weeks of Fitness Registration Due
A piece of Greece is coming to Ellensburg in the form of fitness. University Recreation is set to host a Spring Fitness Decathlon, which is a five-week competition that includes 10 events (five for both males and females respectively), beginning Monday, April 20 and ending Friday, May 22. Prior to participating, decathletes will need to pay a $20 registration fee at the Recreation Center front desk by April 13, after which they’ll receive a “Wildcat Fitness Decathlon” t-shirt.
Every Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon or 2 to 4 p.m. (depending on schedules), participants will meet at the Recreation Center to start that day’s 15 to 30-minute events. Professional University Recreation personal trainers will be there to work with decathletes on proper form and to give instructions on how to complete that day’s events. Events from the decathlon follow a Greek theme and include “Hercules Stone Throw,” “The Leonidas Half Mile” and “The Medicine Ball Olympics,” just to name a few.
Male and female first-place winners of each event will be assigned a score of 10 points, with the second-place winners 8 points, third-place 6 and so on until fifth place. At the end of the five-week competition, the male and female participants with the most points will be crowned Spring Fitness Decathlon Champions.
