SUMMARY:CWU Choirs: Turning Toward the Sun
DESCRIPTION:The concert features performances by University Chorale\, Lab Choir\, and The CWU Chamber Choir. The nationally-recognized CWU Chamber Choir\, conducted by Dr. Nicole Lamartine\, recently performed at the Washington Music Educators Conference\, the National College Music Society Conference\, and was the headline choral ensemble for the Canada Cantando Festival in Whistler\, BC. The choir will present a variety of choral gems\, as well as the lighthearted "Imaginary Creatures" by Andrea Ramsey. Each piece is set to words written by children ages 5-9\, and children of the CWU Music Department faculty will recite the poems before each musical setting. University Chorale builds musicianship\, vocal technique\, and a commitment to excellence through varied programming. Prof. Vijay Singh conducts the group\, and graduate student Soren Engstrom will lead the ensemble in a piece. This quarter\, Vox Divina and Wildcat Chorus are replaced by Lab Choir\, a non-auditioned group providing a recital ensemble for the two graduating Masters in Choral Conducting students\, Maria Maddox and Christopher Lerch. Each will conduct a program fulfilling their recital requirement for the MM in Choral Conducting degree.
