CWU Choirs Winter Concert
The CWU Choirs invite you to our winter quarter concert on Sunday, March 3 at 7pm in the Hertz Concert Hall of the McIntyre Music building on the CWU campus. The event is ticketed and features performances by University Chorale, Wildcat Chorus, Vox Divina, and The CWU Chamber Choir. University Chorale, conducted by Prof. Vijay Singh, is the largest mixed choral ensemble at CWU open to all students without audition. The ensemble builds musicianship, vocal technique, a commitment to excellence through varied programming. Vox Divina, the non-auditioned treble choir, creates beauty in community by performing music infused with expression to inspire the lives of all audience members. Conducted by Dr. Nicole Lamartine, the choir will present a world premiere work by CWU composer Jiyoun Chung called “Run Hide Fight.” The piece is a satire of the active shooter training for children in the US. The CWU Wildcat Chorus is an energetic non-auditioned group which fosters a team attitude and support for all tenors and basses in the ensemble. This is Dr. Scott Peterson’s twelfth year conducting the ensemble, and they will present pieces from the low voice choir tradition. The CWU Chamber Choir, under the leadership of Dr. Nicole Lamartine, will make a short appearance on the program with a set including two world premieres from the past month: “in Time of Silver Rain” by Andre Thomas which was premiered at the NW American Choral Directors Association conference in Spokane, and “Near as Never,” by Forrest Pierce which was premiered at the Washington Music Educators conference in Yakima. The CWU Chamber Choir has been hailed as the “finest collegiate choir in the west” with their “intoxicating” sound and “genius programming.”
