Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) at CWU
Día de los Muertos, Day of the Dead, is an event that celebrates the richness of Latin traditions and honors deceased loved ones. Join the festivities on Saturday, November 2nd. Día de los Muertos originates from the indigenous people of Mexico, and they recognize death is a natural part of the human life cycle, therefore this day is not a day to mourn, but a day to rejoice. A procession honoring the dead starts at 5 p.m. at the Museum of Culture and Environment in Dean Hall and moves to the Student Union and Recreation Center Pit where there will be an ofrenda, an altar that remembers and honors the dead. Head upstairs to the SURC Ballroom for the main event from 6-11 p.m. featuring live music by Mariachi del Centro, food, crafts for kids, Aztec dance performances and a photo booth.
