SLAM POET: Katie Wirsing performs in SURC Theatre Contact: Campus Activities Phone: 509-963-1450 E-mail: CDS@cwu.edu Campus Activities is bringing the always-unexpected poet Katie Wirsing to the Student Union and Recreation Center (SURC) Theatre, Thursday, April 4 at 7:30 p.m. Wirsing will perform her poems concerning gender, love, spirituality, and sexuality at this free show. Wirsing proves that poetry can be hilarious and comedy can encompass the same serious and controversial issues as poetry. Her audiences can expect to learn anything from issues the LGBT community face to the art of Jell-O wrestling. After coming out as a lesbian in high school, Wirsing found acceptance in the poetry scene in her hometown of Boulder, Colorado. Since her career began, Wirsing has opened for the Miami Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, the queer women?s festival AquaGirl, Flobots and comedian Suzanne Westenhoefer. Wirsing?s poetry has also been featured on NPR, the BBC, numerous local radio stations and countless college campuses.
