Collection Serviceperson
The City of Ellensburg is accepting applications for a Collection Serviceperson. The Collection Serviceperson will perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled inspection and maintenance procedures on the City's storm and sanitary sewer system.

- Maintain collection lines; inspect flows of lines indicated and clean as needed; determine cleaning process and operate hydraulic jet to remove foreign material; operate hydraulic root saw to remove roots from main line; flush foreign materials from the main line.
- Utilize TV to detect infiltration, locate taps, and inspect condition of lines; record information on computer hard drive and copy to computer database.
- Install main line - verify utility locations and materials needed; inspect blueprints; lay out job from cut sheet with the proper grade and offset; shoot and maintain grade; inspect line with water or air to ensure a sealed system; drill and install saddle, and measure and map location.
- Perform connection test to verify contractor compliance with pipe installation plans; take measurements and place on map; drain pipe and make final connections for approved installations; forward map to foreperson to complete permit issuance.
- Research maps to perform locates; mark location of storm and sanitary sewer main lines and taps.
- Document and record sewer back-ups in log; report patterns of trouble spots and recommend lines for replacement or rehabilitation; file information for access to history; annually update maps of main lines.
- Assist the Street division with the seal coating process by flagging, signing, and/or shoveling; cover all utilities access ports that are present and uncover the access ports after seal coating is complete.
- Participate in on-call schedule as rotation requires and respond to call-outs as needed to resolve problems relating to high water levels, power outages, lift station failures, pumps, and motor failures; operate heavy equipment in the installation of underground utilities; provide assistance to other department/division employees as needed; act as lead person when assigned; maintain public relations and assure public and worker safety during maintenance and construction activities; attend weekly safety meetings; assist with snow removal.

This is a full-time, benefited position. Salary: $27.80 - $37.06/hour
REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Two (2) years of experience in the operation of heavy equipment including backhoe and laying pipe.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Valid State Driver’s License with Class B Commercial Driver’s License (Class A preferred) and Tanker Endorsement; must maintain an insurable driving record
- Flagging card or ability to obtain within six (6) months
- First Aid/CPR/AED Certification, or ability to obtain within six (6) months
- Trenching and Shoring training, completed per schedule
- Forklift certification, complete per schedule
- Asbestos handling training, completed per schedule
The City of Ellensburg is required by federal regulation to administer a testing program for controlled substance and alcohol use for employees required to have and maintain a CDL. This position is covered under the City of Ellensburg Substance Abuse Testing Policy.
