2017 BASIC MEDIATION TRAINING The Dispute Resolution Center’s Basic Mediation Training will be September 13-15 and 21-22, 2017, in Yakima. Mediation is a cooperative way to resolve disputes effectively, confidentially, and out of court, a way where people in the midst of a conflict sit down together to discuss the issues and develop their own solutions. In this 40-hour training, you will learn and practice the skills required to become a neutral third-party mediator in any setting. This is a great opportunity to develop communication and conflict resolution skills and cultivate nonviolent, collaborative dispute resolution in our community and in your personal life. With the current divisive atmosphere in the country, mediation is a great way to bring people together. Training Components include: active listening skills and techniques; negotiation; conflict theories and styles; acknowledgement; restating/reflecting/reframing ... and much more. Optional mediator certification is available through the DRC with additional training.
