Building Respectful Communities: Transcending Hate
SURC Ballroom • Free and open to the public Lecia Brooks, outreach director for the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) will be on campus to lead discussions with students, faculty, staff and the public, focusing on how to address hate, bias, racism and microaggressions in our communities. Brooks participated via Skype in a community forum here last fall, providing some insights and tips for standing up and with members of the campus and community. This visit is sponsored by multiple campus departments including Africana & Black Studies, Associated Students of CWU Student Government, Brother 2 Brother, Center for Leadership & Community Engagement, Office of Student Involvement, and SISTERS. The program is being coordinated by Not In Our Kittco, a local movement to build and foster a safe and inclusive community.
