Cellists from across Washington state will converge upon Ellensburg to participate in the third annual Central Cello Celebration Nov. 7 and 8 at Central Washington University. The event, hosted by faculty member John Michel, will feature professional cellists, CWU cello students and regional high school cellists. They will create a massive cello choir to perform songs by the popular 1970s Swedish pop band Abba. Tom Walworth has been commissioned to compose a new cello choir work based on popular Abba songs. Come hear these talented cellists rock out during the world-premiere performance of this work and other works for solo cello, cello quartet and cello choir during the Finale Concert on Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. in the Music Building Concert Hall. Other performances during this two-day celebration are scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 8 at 3 p.m. in the Recital Hall. The Nov. 7 recital will include a performance by an Olympia-based cello octet under the direction of Chris Leach of the ?Americana Suite? by Norman Leyden. All performances are free. Persons of disability may make arrangements for reasonable accommodation by calling (509) 963-2116 or (for hearing impaired) TDD (509) 963-2143.
