Central Washington University Symphonic Wind Ensemble May 15, 2008 Contact: Larry Gookin, 509-963-1916, fax: 509-963-1239, email: gookinl@cwu.edu ELLENSBURG, Wash.-The Central Washington University Symphonic Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Professor Larry Gookin, will present a concert at 7:00 pm, Thursday, May 29, in the CWU music building?s concert hall. Central Washington University?s clarinet instructor Jeffrey Brooks will be the featured soloist on Gioacchino Rossini?s Introduction, Theme and Variations. Other traditional and favorite Wind Band compositions the Symphonic Wind Ensemble will perform include Toccata Marziale by Ralph Vaughn Williams, Ballad For Band by Morton Gould, Pas Redouble by Camille Saint-Saens, and Fanatasia in G Major by JS Bach. Works by contemporary composers include Aspen Jubilee by Ron Nelson and Symphony #2 by Frank Ticheli. The Symphonic Wind Ensemble performs contemporary and traditional literature, seeking a balance between transcriptions, marches and original Wind Band compositions.
