To help the CWU and local communities become active citizens and educated voters, College Civics Week is back for another year at CWU with events Monday, May 4 through Thursday, May 7. This year, Washington State Representative Melanie Stambaugh will be giving a keynote speech on Tuesday, May 5 at noon in the Student Union and Recreation Center (SURC) Pit, with a question and answer period beginning at 12:45 p.m. In addition to all other College Civics Week events, this speech is free to attend and open to the public.
Melanie Stambaugh was elected into office as a Member of the Washington House of Representatives from the 25th district on January 12, 2015. She became the youngest woman elected to the Washington State Legislature since 1936, and is currently the youngest member of the legislative chamber.
Following the speech and formal question and answer period, a photo booth, free swag, snacks and mingling with the representative will be held in SURC 137 A and B from 1 to 2 p.m.
