CWU Music at Benaroya Hall
The CWU Department of Music is recognized for its challenging curriculum and supportive environment, its excellent student, ensemble, and faculty performances, its world-class facilities, and the fulfillment of its motto: ?Where Teaching is a Performing Art.? Ã?Â
The department will showcase these talents and beliefs in a celebratory concert at one of the artistic and architectural jewels of Washington State, Benaroya Hall in Seattle, Washington. This concert will feature CWU?s premier student large-group ensembles, culminating in Carl Orff?s 1937 masterpiece Carmina Burana. Pre-concert music will be provided by small ensembles of students and faculty.
Directed by Professor Larry Gookin, the CWU Wind Ensemble is one of the nation?s outstanding undergraduate wind ensembles, performing at state, regional, and national conferences.
The CWU Chamber Choir is the premiere choral ensemble at Central. Directed by Dr. Gary Weidenaar, it has received numerous acknowledgements including an invitation to appear at the American Choral Directors Association?s Northwest Division Conference in March, 2010.
The CWU Symphony Orchestra, directed by Dr. Nikolas Caoile, is well known throughout the Northwest as one of the preeminent university orchestral programs.
Professor Vijay Singh directs the University Chorale, the largest of CWU?s eight choral ensembles, open to anyone who enjoys singing.
