CWU Music Department Jazz Program Presents Two Great Nights of Jazz
The growth in both quantity and quality of the Central Washington University Jazz Combo program will be showcased in two concerts on Feb. 17 and 19. The concerts, starting at 7 p.m. at the CWU Music Building Recital Hall, are free and open to the public. They will feature student ensembles performing jazz standards, original compositions and new arrangements of popular tunes. Seven student jazz combos will perform during the two concerts, four to be featured on the Feb. 17 and three on Feb. 19. "It is so gratifying to hear the musical development of these students," says Chris Bruya, CWU Director of Jazz Studies. "We coach them to play toward obvious jazz ideals, but ultimately their creative abilities take center stage and they come up with some truly personal musical statements.? Attendance at past Combo Nites has been very good, Bruya adds; so arrive early to get a good seat. Persons of disability may make arrangements for reasonable accommodation by calling (509) 963-1426 or (for hearing impaired) TDD (509) 963-2143.
