CWU Poetry Slam Tonight!
CWU Poetry Slam Tonight! Spoken-word poetry, and all the energy that comes with it, is coming to CWU. On Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. in the Student Union and Recreation Center (SURC) Theatre, CWU student poets will go word-for-word on stage at a slam competition hosted by the Center for Diversity and Social Justice (CDSJ). Energy, chaos, passion, individuality and opinionated expression will echo as the artists compete for prizes and share their art. Attendance is free and open to the public. CWU faculty and staff will judge the competition, and CWU English professor and Nuyorican Grand Slam National Champion Xavier Cavazos will host. At stake is a $200 first-place prize, $100 for second place and $50 for third place. Besides the cash, winners will have the honor of performing with musician Ron McCurdy at the Langston Hughes Project, a tribute to Langston Hughes and the Harlem Renaissance movement. Details on that event are still to come. For more information, contact the CDSJ at 509-963-2127 or diversity@cwu.edu.
