CWU Queer Film Series: Too Fast to Be a Woman?: The Story of Caster Semenya
Caster Semenya, a 19-year-old from a remote village in South Africa, achieved her dream in 2009 and won the 800m race at the World Championship. Semenya?s triumph quickly turned to humiliation after rumors of a failed gender test erupted in the media. This film shows Semenya struggling to come to terms with what happened and fighting to compete again. The film, free and open to the public, will be introduced by Dr. Geraldine O?Mahony, professor of philosophy and religious studies, and Shayne Wittkopp, Health and Membership Coordinator. The showing is a continuation of the Center for Diversity and Social Justice?s (CDSJ) Queer Film Series which highlights films that address issues facing the LGBT community. This film screening is sponsored by William O. Douglas Honors College, Women?s & Gender Studies and CDSJ.
