Central Washington University’s Lion Rock Visiting Writers’ Series is proud to welcome spoken word poet, globally recognized speaker, and community activist Carlos Andrés Gómez on Tuesday, October 27th. Join us for three events on campus! Members of the CWU and local communities are invited to the Brooks Library’s attic space on the fourth floor, where Gomez will present: a craft talk, Q&A, and book signing at noon. His craft talk will focus on “The Radical Power of Autobiographical Narrative” and invites us “to celebrate how art and the humanities can incline each of us deeper and more profoundly toward close attention and attending to the messy, complex dimensions of human experience.” Following will be a reading, Q&A, and book signing at 5:30 p.m. in the atrium of Central’s new North Academic Complex. Gomez will have a third event in which he will present a dedicated program to online students and all others. Pre-register for this zoom-only combined craft talk and reading from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. here: https://cwu.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_CkjtcQU6Rry95rRclXVaqQ#/registration. All events are free and open to the public! Carlos will be reading from his recently released bilingual chapbook Patrilineation, winner of the Alta California Chapbook Prize, and debut collection of poems, Fractures, a Gold Medal Winner in Poetry and winner of the Felix Pollak prize. Find him @CarlosAGLive or CarlosLive.com. Thanks to the generosity of the Friends of the James E. Brooks Library, students attending each of the events in person will have the chance to win one of five copies of Gomez’s Patrilineation and Fractures.
