CWU Symphony Orchestra to Present an Afternoon of Music
On Sunday, March 15, the Central Washington University Symphony Orchestra will present in its final concert of the quarter works by four important twentieth-century composers: John Adams' ?Lollapalooza,? a short piece based on subtle variations of rhythm; Debussy's landmark impressionistic work, ?Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun,? a musical introduction to the Stephane Mallarme's erotic poem; and ?Scythian Suite,? Sergei Prokofiev's response to Igor Stravinsky's seminal ?Rite of Spring,? which matches Stravinsky in barbaric intensity. Also on the program is Lee Actor's ?Concerto for Horn and Orchestra,? featuring CWU Professor of Horn, Jeffery Snedeker. Composed in 2007, this work was a first-prize winner of the International Horn Society composition contest of that year. The concert is at 4 p.m. at the Central Washington University Music Building. Tickets are $7 general admission and children and students are free. The orchestra has developed a deserved reputation as the finest university orchestra in the region, and the exciting and varied repertoire of this concert promises to give ample opportunity to prove that claim. Persons of disability may make arrangements for reasonable by calling (509) 963-1251 or (for hearing impaired) TDD (509) 963-2143.
