Hiawatha Days
Turn back your clock and calendar to June 1947........the Cascade rail foundation and Washington State Parks will host a two day event to celebrate the 60th anniverary of tne first run of the sleek streamlined passenger train. The Milwaukee Road's "Olympian Hiawatha" ran from Chicago, Milwaukeem Twin Cities across the Northern Plains and five mountian ranges to reach Puget Sound.
The Hiawatha made its last run from Seattle to Tacoma on May 22, 1964. Today parts of the Milwaukee Road have been transformed to the John Wayne Pioneer Trail as part of Iron Horse State Park.
Festivities will begin at noon on Friday June 29th at the depot and historic rail yard in South Cle Elum.There will be a feature fim shown at 7:00 pm on friday the 29th. "A Ticket to Tomahawk" is a lighthearted Western movie from the 50's.
US Postal Service will set up a temporary postal office station. from noon- 3 on Friday and Saturday (June 29 & 30)
Telegraph played an important role in communication on the railroad. There wil be an authentic working telegraph set up and volunteers will be on hand to demonstrate the telegraph and Morse Code. Times will be Noon to 7:00 pm on Friday and Noon to 5:00 pm on Saturday.
There will also be a 1947 style reenactment with tours in authentic vintage setting. Cascade Rail Foundation vollunteers will conduct tours of the depot. Tours will be held Friday from Noon - 5:00 pm on Friday and 10:00 am - 5:00 pm on Saturday.

This event is free to the public .....
If you wish to have a souvenir from the post office there will be a charge for the specially designed cachet envelope.
