Jan Techau: Europe After Pax Americana
The Seattle Eric M. Warburg Chapter of the American Council on Germany and Central Washington University cordially invite you to a discussion with Jan Techau, on Friday, Nov. 18 at 3 p.m. in the Planetarium, Science II building. The discussion will be on the “Turmoil and Order in the Old World.” This event is free and open to everyone. Jan Techau is the Director of the American Academy in Berlin’s Richard C. Holbrooke Forum for the Study of Diplomacy and Governance. He works on European Union integration and foreign policy, transatlantic affairs, and German foreign and security policy. Pax Americana is a state of relative international peace regarded as overseen by the United States. So what’s next for Europe after Pax Americana? This is a crucial question not just for peace and stability in Europe, but also for the future of liberal world order as a whole. As America’s willingness and ability to guarantee peace and stability in Europe is dwindling, the traditional instability of Europe returns. Mr. Techau will try to provide some answers to the strategic questions dominating the transatlantic agenda. This presentation is part of the university’s annual Social Justice and Human Rights Dialogues focusing on the topic of migration. This program was made possible by a generous grant through the European Recovery Program and sponsored by the Office of the Associate Provost.
