John Harbaugh to Perform Trumpet Music from Past to Present
Harbaugh will present music from various eras, moving chronologically from present to past, and will feature collaborations with several colleagues from the music faculty. Recent works include the recital opener, Stravinsky's duet for two trumpets, "A Fanfare for a New Theater," in which Harbaugh will be joined by Professor Chris Bruya, and a Northwest premiere of a work for piano, trumpet and soprano by Dr. Elaine Ross, "Only Then Can We Smile," with Ross (piano) and Dr. Gayla Blaisdell (voice). Both Ross and Blaisdell are new to the community, having joined the music faculty this year. Pianist Dr. Nikolas Caoile will collaborate with Harbaugh on a Ron Newman composition entitled "Not Calm.? Works from the past include a Concerto by J.G.B. Neruda, performed on the Eb trumpet and a sinfonia by Guiseppe Torelli, performed on piccolo trumpet, with Teresa Harbaugh accompanying both.
