Lion Rock Visiting Writers Series at CWU: Poet and Nature Writer Derek Sheffield Feb. 11 7:30 p.m. Wildcat Shop Free CWU welcomes poet and nature writer Derek Sheffield as a part of the Lion Rock Visiting Writers Series. Sheffield will read a selection of his critically acclaimed works Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the Wildcat Shop. This event is free, and everyone is invited to attend and join Sheffield as he explores nature through poetry. Sheffield?s first book of poetry, ?Through the Second Skin,? was published in 2013, and he currently works as a professor of English at Wenatchee Valley College. His poems have appeared widely in literary magazines and journals such as Poetry, The Georgia Review and Orion, and he has received many awards for his work including the James Hearst Poetry Prize, the inaugural Sparrow Prize in Poetry and the Hazel Lipa Environmental Chapbook Award. Sheffield was runner-up for the 2012 Emily Dickinson First Book Award and was a finalist for the Walt Whitman Award. This event is sponsored by the CWU English Department, the CWU College of Arts and Humanities, Karen Gookin, the Wildcat Shop and the Student Academic Senate.
