Lion Rock VIsiting Writers Series at CWU: Poet Xavier Cavazos
The Lion Rock Visiting Writers Series at CWU is pleased to welcome poet Xavier Cavazos. Cavazos earned a B.A. in the English: Writing Specialization from CWU and an MFA in Creative Writing and the Environment from Iowa State University. Cavazos was the Nuyorican Poets Café 1993 ?Fresh Poet? Award winner and the Nuyorican Poets Café 1995 Grand Slam Champion. He has been a member of three national poetry slam teams and was the 2011 and 2012 ?Discovery?/ Boston Review Poetry Contest Runner-Up. Currently, he is the 2013 Poetry Society of America's National Chapbook Fellow. His manuscript, Barbarian at the Gate, was selected by Thomas Sayers Ellis and was published in 2014. Cavazos taught undergraduate composition and poetry in the English Department at Iowa State University, and will be teaching in the CWU Professional and Creative Writing Program in 2014-2015. Join Cavazos for his reading Tuesday, May 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the Hertz Auditorium. Books will be on sale at the event courtesy of the Wildcat Shop. Admission is free and open to the public.
