Liza Jensen to Perform Harp Recital
On Sunday, January 25, former Central Washington University music major and Wenatchee, Wash. native Liza Jensen will perform a recital of harp music on the Department of Music?s Lyon & Healy instrument. Although majoring in flute when at CWU from 1990 to 1994, Jensen has since pursued a career in both harp performance and harp repair/maintenance. She studied harp performance at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY, and at the State College of New York in Purchase. She has worked with master harp builders Pat Dougal and John Pratt and founded the New York Harp Duo with Dr. Jasmine Cowin. The duo recently gave a concert to the German Consulate at the United Nations, presenting the first US performance of several German composers. Jensen is a US representative and warranty repair service technician for Camac Harps. When not traveling around the world concertizing and maintaining harps, she resides in Brooklyn, New York, where she teaches both flute and harp. This fall she has been appointed to teach Harp Department at the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford in West Harford, Conn. The Jan. 25 recital will include harp music by Benjamin Britten and William Mathias and a transcription of a solo violin partita by J.S. Bach. She will also give a nod to her work at CWU by including a work for solo flute ? John Anthony Lennon?s ?Echolalia.? She will be joined by faculty members Hal Ott and Tim Betts on the last work of the recital, Debussy?s ?Sonata for Flute, Viola and Harp.?
