Make a Difference Day at CWU
To reach out to elementary school students and help them learn about Martin Luther King Jr. and the Civil Rights Movement, CWU?s Center for Leadership and Community Engagement (CLCE) will host Make a Difference Day. Fifth grade students from Kittitas Elementary will attend on Jan. 14 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and second and fifth grade students from Mount Stuart Elementary will be present on Jan. 15 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The elementary students will join CWU student volunteers in the CWU Student Union and Recreation Center (SURC) Ballroom for activities like writing about leadership, roleplaying civil rights scenarios and making signs for a peace walk that the students will take back to their schools. By engaging young students in learning about the importance of MLK day, the CWU volunteers will help carry MLK?s dream of peace and equality into the next generation. This event is sponsored by CLCE, Africana & Black Studies, Students for the Dream, Black Student Union, E.M.P.I.R.E. and the Center for Diversity and Social Justice (CDSJ).
