Medical Community Perspectives & the Negative Spin on Aging
Wisdom For Aging Well This class will provide a fresh and updated view of the aging process while defining the differences between primary and secondary aging. Students will learn about misconceptions surrounding aging in different settings such as in the media and medical community, and how these perspectives can be positively altered. This class will offer every day wisdom about aging well to allow students the tools and resources to set goals to facilitate positive aging for a happy and healthy future. At the end of each week, instructor Laura Attaway will provide Wise Bits and some "homework" to aid students in being more aware of their day which is the first step towards positive change. Four Weeks – 4 topics: Week 1 – Standards of Aging, Primary vs. Secondary Aging Week 2 – Managing Media Myths about Aging Week 3 – Medical Community Perspectives & the Negative Spin on Aging Week 4 – Discovering your personal negative preconceptions & bias towards aging and how to get motivated to succeed Cost: $10 each session
