As Martin Luther King Day approaches, the CWU Center for Leadership and Community Engagement (CLCE) invites the CWU and Ellensburg communities to join in celebrating the life and work of Dr. King. On Thursday, Jan. 15, the "Persistence of Hope" themed event will include a candlelight vigil from 5:15 to 6 p.m. in the Student Union and Recreation Center (SURC) Pit and a celebration and address from 6 to 7 p.m. in the SURC Theatre. The evening will also include a special performance by the CWU acapella group Boots ?n? Cats, and there will be a partition display in the SURC tabling area with information on Dr. King and the Civil Rights movement. Attendance is free, and refreshments will be provided. This event is sponsored by CLCE, CWU Africana & Black Studies, Students for the Dream, Black Student Union, E.M.P.I.R.E., the Center for Diversity and Social Justice, Boots 'n' Cats, the Residence Hall Association, 88.1 The Burg, Grace Episcopal Church, First United Methodist, and Kittitas Valley Unitarian Universalist Congregation.
