Two jazz greats hailing from the Pacific Northwest will team up with CWU's Chamber Orchestra
and Jazz Band 1 for a performance of jazz singer Nancy King's album, Straight Into Your Heart. The album was originally recorded in the Netherlands with the Metropole Orchestra, the world's
largest pop and jazz orchestra.
King's career started in San Francisco in the early 1960s. Over the years, she has toured with many musicians and recorded several albums. King's performances include New York City's Town Hall, the Montreal Jazz Festival, and several European jazz fests. In 2001 she was inducted into the Oregon Jazz Society's Hall of Fame.
Steve Christofferson has toured and recorded with King as well as with several other musicians as an accompanying singer and piano player. He is an active member of the Portland, Oregon-based band, the Skol Brothers, an electric quintet.
CWU Jazz Professor Chris Bruya will lead the Chamber Orchestra and Jazz Band 1, two award -
winning student ensembles comprised of students of all majors.
