Poet, Photographer Thomas Sayers Ellis to Visit CWU
Kicking off Spring Quarter?s lineup of the CWU Lion Rock Visiting Writers Series, poet and photographer Thomas Sayers Ellis will visit Ellensburg for a poetry reading, book signing and interactive discussion with attendees Tuesday, April 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the Student Union and Recreation Center (SURC) Theatre. Prior to his reading, Ellis will be available for a craft talk and discussion at 3 p.m. in Black Hall room 151. These events are free and open to the public. Ellis is the author of ?The Maverick Room? and ?Skin Inc.,? is a visiting professor for the Creative Writing program at the University of Montana, and his poetry has been published in various books and magazines, including ?Best American Poetry,? ?The Nation,? ?Paris Review,? ?Poetry? and ?Tin House.? Most recently, ?Poetry Magazine? awarded Ellis the 2014 Levinson Prize for Poetry for the ?Vernacular Owl,? his elegy for notable novelist and poet Amiri Baraka. His photography and photo essays have appeared widely in magazines and on book covers and his first solo exhibition ?(Un)Lock it: The Percussive People in the GoGo Pocket? was unveiled in Washington D.C. in 2011.
