Powerhouse Percussion at CWU!

ELLENSBURG, Wash.-On Thursday, October 16th at 7 pm, CWU Director of Percussion Studies Mark Goodenberger and friends will present a concert of some of the finest works ever written for percussion quartet. Goodenberger has assembled a powerhouse ensemble made up of four professional percussionists drawn together by their friendship and love of the literature. Andrew Spencer, who preceded Goodenberger as Director of Percussion Studies at CWU and now holds a similar position at Central Michigan University, will be returning for this performance. Also appearing will be Luanne Katz of Canada, formerly a percussionist with the San Francisco Opera, and Jon Szanto from the San Diego Symphony. The program will feature the beautiful and haunting Vespertine Formations by Christopher Deane, the driving Omphalo Centric Lecture by Nigel Westlake, and the mighty taiko-influenced Marimba Spiritual by Minoru Miki. Mark Goodenberger, percussionist and composer, is percussionist with the Third Angle New Music Ensemble and timpanist with the Portland Baroque Orchestra and Trinity Consort, and a specialist in contemporary and baroque music. His compositions bring together elements of theater, dance and vaudeville into the unrestricted world of percussion. Admission to the concert, to be presented in the Music Building Concert Hall is free.
