Every school campus should be an all-inclusive and safe environment for any student, no matter their sexual orientation. While no campus is perfect, the CWU Center for Diversity and Social Justice (CDSJ) is making strides towards bettering LGBTQIA+ safety with the Safe Space Workshop Saturday, Nov. 22 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Wellington Event Center. Participants will need to register by Thursday, Nov. 20 by stopping by the CDSJ office in SURC 250/253, calling 509-963-2127 or emailing diversity@cwu.edu. This workshop is free, open to the public and pizza will be provided.
The Safe Space workshop is a mutli-faceted ally development session with interactive excises and discussions allowing participates to identify key aspects of healthy and respectful allyship. The workshop is aimed around faculty, staff and students creating a “safe space” for the LGBTQIA+ community, a place they can go to escape from oppression faced in everyday life. The first three hours of the five-hour workshop will focus on the history and struggle of LGBTQIA+ members, with the last two hours centered on how to become an ally.
For more information, contact the CDSJ at 506-963-2127 or diversity@cwu.edu.
