Spectrum Dance
The Seattle, Washington-based Spectrum Dance Theater (SDT) was founded in 1982 with the goal of bringing dance to everyone, while also providing all who are interested an opportunity to learn the art.
More than 500 students of all ages attend the dance company?s classes, and each year Spectrum awards several scholarships to students from ages four to 21. The company provides students in schools and throughout the Seattle area with more than 120 hours of dance education per year.
Under Donald Byrd?s artistic leadership since 2002, the organization has attracted world-class dancers, produced some of the most avant-garde works in contemporary dance, and generated local and national praise.
In Spectrum's CWU performance, and their souls will understand . . ., dancers will give a raw, moving interpretation of humanity. The performance features music by Mariza, Waldemar Bastos, and other noted Fado artists from Portugal and its former African colonies.
While here, Spectrum artistic director Donald Byrd and other dance company members will teach master classes in modern dance and ballet to CWU students as well as students from Ellensburg's Stage Door Dance Studio.
Since 2005, Spectrum Dance has been the Moore Theatre?s residence dance company. Recently it has partnered with the 5th Avenue Theater, the Northwest Sinfonietta, and the Seattle Opera. Details about the company are online at www.spectrumdance.org..
