Tea at 3 Speaker Series at CWU: Ruth Harrington
The CWU Center for Leadership and Community Engagement (CLCE) will host Tea at 3, an engaging speaker series at CWU. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn from the personal experiences of CWU faculty, staff and community members as they share their journeys to their current places in life. Join Ruth Harrington, local philanthropist and charity organizer, Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 3 p.m. in the CWU Student Union and Recreation Center (SURC) Pit. Attendance is free, and warm beverages and treats will be available for attendees to enjoy. Harrington, wife of the late Dr. Edward Harrington, former CWU Vice President, got her start volunteering in the Ellensburg community when she came here from San Jose in 1973. That same year, Harrington started a luncheon program to fundraise for scholarships at CWU for high school seniors and for single parents. Alongside running this program, which maintains success forty-one years later, Harrington serves on the board of Hospice Friends, volunteers at the library, was a former volunteer with the Children?s Museum, helps with gardening at Olmstead Place State Park and calls bingo and plays piano at local nursing homes. She was named the Daily Record?s Person of the Year for 2013 and was awarded the Town and Gown Award by the Ellensburg Downtown Association in 2013.
