Associate Planner

The City of Ellensburg has a vacancy for a full-time Associate Planner in Community Development.        
 
The person in this position will ensure that development proposals and city properties are compliant with applicable city, state, and federal regulations by conducting application review and site inspections in a timely, accurate, consistent, and impartial manner.  Promote and support the community’s vision for future growth by participating in the preparation and adoption of land use policies and plans.  
 
Will perform a variety of simple to complex planning work, including land use policies, plans, codes (including enforcement), and ordinances; assist in administration and enforcement of policies, land use permitting, environmental and critical area review, zoning, subdivision applications, and if assigned, historic preservation. Make recommendations to senior staff regarding current and long-range planning activities. Support the department’s planning division by responding to customer inquiries, processing planning permits, and assisting customers at the front counter. Work with City boards, commissions, and staff to develop land use policy.  May conduct annexation studies and assist in annexation initiatives.  This position may serve as preservation planner.

QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to independently perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 
 
        REQUIRED EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE: 

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four (4)-year college or university in Planning, Geography, Environmental Studies, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience that directly relates to the duties and responsibilities of this position.
  • Please note:  An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the above requirements as determined by management.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
  • Valid State Driver’s License or ability to obtain one by time of hire; must maintain an insurable driving record.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certificate preferred.
Salary:  $5,566 - $6,958/month plus benefits
