It’s that time of year again to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community, and CWU is set to host a week’s worth of events for CWU Pride Week Monday, May 25 through Friday, May 29. Pride is a nationally recognized movement in celebration of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual and ally culture with annual events scheduled in cities and communities across the globe. A wide range of events are planned for CWU, from professional lectures to drag shows.
One such event of note is a live performance by Ryan Cassata, singer-songwriter and transgender motivational speaker, who will combine music and activism to highlight the transgender community Wednesday, May 27 at 7 p.m. in the Student Union and Recreation Center (SURC) Theatre. This event is free and open to the public.
Cassata is a transgender male who has been speaking publicly about Gender Identity Disorder, Transgenderism and bullying, and his own personal transition from female to male. He has performed at multiple venues and has made appearances on the popular television shows such as the “Larry King Live Show” and “The Tyra Banks Show.”
